Sharpening Services

The most common question I get is, “what do you sharpen?” The answer is, it’s a long list.

Just about anything that can get dull can be sharpened if you have the right equipment and know how.

Some of the equipment can only be used for a specific item while other pieces of equipment can be used for multiple applications. In the end, a well equipped sharpening shop ends up with a lot of machines and supplies.

Every time you use that dull knife in the kitchen or, try to cut a 2x4 with a dull saw blade you think, “I gotta get that sharpened”, and then you forget about it until the next time you want to use it, or go out and buy a new one. This happens because you do not know where to get it sharpened. Or maybe you try to sharpen it yourself and end up making it worse than it was.

At Lakes Area Sharpening we try to make it as convenient for you as possible with 4 different drop off locations. We can also make other arrangements for pick up and delivery when it makes sense to do so.

We also try to price our services fairly taking the cost of equipment, labor, and transportation into consideration.

Sharpening will typically save you between 50 to 75 percent as opposed to replacing.

For example, a moderately high end 80 tooth alternating top bevel carbide saw blade will cost around $125.00. Sharpening that same blade will cost around $28.00, and it can be sharpened numerous times. A set of quality kitchen knives can cost anywhere between $250 and $2500.00, sharpening that same set of knives will cost from $30.00 to $60.00.

We all use things with sharp edges every day, in the kitchen, in the shop, on the job, or out on the lawn.

At Lakes Area Sharpening we have tried to design our services to meet the typical needs of both homeowners and professionals, and to provide high quality work with a minimum turn around time.
